Sometimes referred to as the Reynosa CDG, Los Metros is a faction of the Cártel del Golfo which was first founded in the late 1990's in the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. As part of an initial strategy by then over all leader of the Cártel, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén to secure the support of police and military in order to bolster his position.

Supposedly, this organization was named after the 'Metropolitan Police' which made up the first of its members. However, other rumours circulate that Osiel was eager to name CDG factions after the cities they hailed from as well, so as to limit their reach by applying them to zones. Such as, Metros for Matamoros, Lobos for Nuevo Laredo, Rojos for Reynosa, Tangos for Tampico and so on.
Under Osiel, Los Metros served as trusted confidants, and for some time all was well. However, in 2010 while the CDG-Zetas war was already in full swing, then-leader of Los Rojos, aptly known as R-1, was overlooked for the position of Plaza Boss of Reynosa. Instead he was assigned to an area of Tamaulipas which encompasses the three cities of Miguel Alemán, Camargo and Ciudad Mier - an area known as Frontera Chica which collectively had a population narrowly reaching 50,000 inhabitants.
Reynosa meanwhile boasts a population of well over half a million persons, similarly to Matamoros which comes as a close second.
This was perceived as a slight by R-1's faction as Reynosa, their ancestral home, was given to M-3 of Los Metros.
Shrine of M-3
This resulted in catastrophic infighting at a time where the CDG was already suffering incursions by Los Zetas, which had broken away earlier in the year after the death of El Concord. Los Rojos were not considered to be as powerful as Los Metros, whom were the larger organization of the time. This resulted in Los Rojos aligning themselves with a Cárdenas family member known commonly as Señor 900, founder of Los Ciclones and nephew to Grupo Escorpion's founder, Tony Tormenta. Cmdte 900 blamed Los Metros for TT's death given that Los Metros were confidants of a man known as 'El Coss, as well as Señor Doble X', who had disputed overall leadership of the CDG with the Cárdenas family after the arrest and extradition of Osiel to the United States.
Inevitably, M-3 was killed on September 2nd, 2011. He was at the time the overall leader of the Metros faction and had been respected by all of it's members. The shockwaves of his death are still being felt today, and he still has a sort of cult following which include dozens of corridos, mantas signed with his clave and even shrines dedicated to him.
After the death of M-3, a man known as X-20 (X being the designation assigned to confidants of El Coss; aka Los X) was promoted to the groups leadership, and conducted an extreme purging of anyone he considered to be a threat to his power.
Major Metros players with connections to drug producers in South & Central America were killed. El Gringo Mike perhaps most notably, who had been a major money maker for the organization. Though others speculate Gringo Mike's death may have been a reprisal for his ordering the execution of El Metro 4, whom had also been greatly respected among the Metros.
This purging of the old guard by X-20, along with continued assaults by Los Ciclones and Grupo Escorpion have placed Los Metros into a precarious place today. (The original Rojos of R-1 seem to be no more, given his suspected death or moving to Sinaloa. Apparently, all the homes he owned throughout Reynosa and the majority of his gunmen were viciously hunted down and slaughtered after the murder of Metro 3.)
Today, Los Metros is known as being perhaps the most turbulent of all the CDG's factions. While it retains a firm hold on the city of Reynosa and much of Frontera Chica, it has lost Matamoros to Los Ciclones. It is also split up among it self into a variety of factions and has struggled to maintain sole leadership positions for any meaningful amount of time since the death of M-3.
Many of these sub-factions are dominated by Comandantes controlling neighbourhoods of Reynosa who fight amongst one another. The most recent battles of which involve lead Commanders like M-28 'El Pelochas' and M-100 'El Panilo', the latter of which seems to have had ties to Grupo Escorpion. These men were once subordinates of the previous Reynosa plaza boss, M-42 'Cmdte Toro' who was killed in April of 2017 after a string of near misses with the military. Including one in which M-17 'El Tachas' and M-65 'El Nico' reportedly attempted to sell out Toro's position. Inevitably, their efforts were discovered, and the end result of this was the execution of both individuals on March 24th, 2015 in a settling of accounts.
Since the death of El Toro we have seen the various neighbourhood heads aligning themselves with one side or the other - and a variety of betrayals following therein which have further fractured an already turbulent organization.
