Bribery over bullets, this seems to be the motto of the CDS. Founded in the late 1980's as a federation of a number of other Cárteles, the Sinaloa Cártel once reigned as Mexico's most prevalent organized crime group. Trafficking cocaine, heroin, meth and weapons, as well as indigenously grown opium and marijuana from fields in the Sierra mountains.
They became infamous with figures like El Chapo, El Azul and El Mayo Zambada at their head, and have swept the headlines recently due to television shows portraying their exploits as well as recent fractures and infighting which have caused murder rates and abductions to swell in their associated regions.
The CDS, like many other crime groups of Mexico at the moment are in a state of flux. With El Chapo under trial in the United States, and important operators like those of Los Damasos undergoing the same, the organization is fighting for viable leadership. While at the same time attempting to curtail incursions by rival groups like the CJNG, CTNG, Beltrán Leyvas, and Los Zetas.
Coined Los Chapitos, the sons of El Chapo are the natural heirs to his territories within the federation, and appear to be taking tutelage from the more experienced Grand Capo, El Mayo Zambada. A close associate and peer to El Chapo.
It will be interesting to see how these events unfold in the coming months and years, especially given the ballooning presence of the CJNG all across the country. Whom appear to be the Sinaloa Cártel's largest rival at the moment.
